Welcome to the website of the ICAO Forum on Integration and Harmonization of NextGen (Next Generation) and SESAR (the Single European Sky ATM Research Programme) into the Global ATM Framework which will be held in Montreal from 8 to 10 September 2008.

This event has as its goal to facilitate greater understanding of the integration and harmonization of NextGen and SESAR, the two major ATM programmes initiated by the United States and Europe, respectively, to meet the specific requirements of these regions. The need for global harmonization is stressed; it is essential for the work to be done within the context of a global ATM system to ensure interoperability, to maximize utilization of available and emerging technologies and to support an ongoing global discussion. As work on a globally coordinated effort continues, it is worthwhile mentioning that related documentation makes extensive references to the ICAO framework. ICAO's regional planning framework has also been evolving to ensure effective support for implementation at the regional level.

The Forum is intended to begin the process of sharing developments in the NextGen and SESAR systems with the global audience; identifying commonalities between the systems as well as differences and highlighting how the harmonization and interoperability efforts which have been made will benefit ANS providers, users and stakeholders. It is expected that general issues of an institutional nature, as well as specific information related to systems integration and harmonization, will be addressed at the Forum. Presentations will be given by the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States, EUROCONTROL, the European Community, systems designers, research institutions and standards making organizations. Discussions should result in greater awareness, participation and a willingness to progress together as a global community within the context of a global ATM system. The opportunity to clarify uncertainties and to chart out the next steps within a global discussion will be the primary objectives of the event.
