Asia
and Pacific
- TCB's Asia/Pacific
Section retained its emphasis on promoting and supporting civil aviation
development through technical cooperation activities in the Region.
Enhancement of flight safety and aviation security oversight capabilities,
SARPs compliance and institution building, through ICAO technical
cooperation programmes, have been the major thrust areas.
- Sustainable development
of civil aviation personnel, as one of TCB's main efforts, has been
accomplished through ICAO TRAINAIR programmes. Since the last ICAO
Assembly in 1998, the TRAINAIR programme is being successfully delivered
in several additional countries of the Asia/Pacific Region, including
Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Korea, Viet Nam, Philippines
and People's Republic of China. An assessment of the Civil Aviation
Training Centre of Sri Lanka has recently been carried out for its
future participation in the TRAINAIR Programme.
- During the year
2000 and the first half of the year 2001, approx. 80 ICAO Technical
Cooperation initiatives are in various stages of planning and implementation
in the Asia/Pacific Region. Notable technical cooperation initiatives
