This website is a resource for States and other partners to obtain information about ICAO's efforts in the area of Search and Rescue (SAR) in the Africa-Indian Ocean (AFI) Region. ICAO and AFCAC have signed in January 2002 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of France with a view to improving SAR services in the AFI Region.

Since that date, a number of activities have been conducted in the framework of the ICAO/AFCAC SAR Project, the purpose of which is to improve the quality of SAR services in the AFI Region. This website is an attempt to share, inasmuch as possible, the outcome of these activities with SAR professionals in Africa and elsewhere with a single final goal: saving lives.
